On the Road With Billboard Chris

Hundreds of protesters gather at a public library in Rhode Island to accuse parents discussing secretive social transition policies of hate and bigotry

Here's a short documentary I shot with a little handheld camera and built-in mic while on the road with Billboard Chris in September 2022.

Chris and local parent Nicole Solas address a few dozen other parents in a meeting room at the Cranston Public Library in Rhode Island about what elementary schoolkids are being taught about gender identity as well as the policy adopted by thousands of schools around the country of changing a child's name and pronouns to reflect transgender identification without parental notice or consent. The event carried on despite a campaign to shut it down required a phalanx of off-duty police officers to provide security.

Outside, hundreds of protestors cheer along as transgender activists and allies allege that the parents seeking to learn about these policies, which are opposed by a robust majority of the American public, are hateful bigots seeking to erase their identities. One invokes the specter of Nazi Germany.

This trip was my first immersion into the Twilight Zone like unreality that has begun to envelop ever larger swathes of middle class American life. American institutions are increasingly enacting flagrant assaults on medical ethics and Constitutional rights while tens of thousands of Americans sincerely believe that the very existence of a marginalized sub-population hinges on whether teachers are given a free hand to teach pseudo-scientific falsehoods to American schoolchildren and to engage in psychosocial medical interventions that place confused children on a pathway to medicalized self-harm.
